The ‘Senior Zone’ is a group of Christian youth aged 17 and above from Covenant Evangelical Free Church (CEFC) who meet on a regular basis for the purposes of fellowship, Bible-Study, prayer and well, to slack with like-minded slackers. (the like-mindedness refers to christianity, not a philosophy of slothfulness)
We are part of the the WEB Ministry, which is the Youth pillar of our church (CEFC). WEB stands for Where Eternity Begins, and has nothing to do with Spiderman. However, the adult leaders that guide and provide so much support are called ‘Spiders’, and the youth, WEBs. While the analogy of spiders spinning intricate webestry holds merit, this writer nevertheless absolves himself of any creative responsibility in the naming process.
The Senior Zone started in 2007, when the WEB ministry was re-structured into various ‘zones’, according to age. Those in Junior College and Polytechinic, together with other overgrown adolescents in the army masquerading as schoolkids, were grouped together.
And so the Senior Zone was born.
We have much to thank God for. He has blessed us with youth eager and serious about the Chrsitian faith who want to deepen both their understanding of the word and seek an authentic and genuine relationship with the Lord Jesus.
Our size is about 50, Give or take a few. 50 is a large number, and impossible to facilitate any sort of intimate relationship-building. As such the Senior Zone is further sub-divided into three cell groups, The Redeemed, City on a Hill, and The Potter’s Hand. I would like to expound on the origins of the term ‘cell group’ here, but unfortunately the anecdotal beginnings of the term eludes this writer. Returning to the matter, the senior zone thus functions in these three basic units, although bible studies and major gatherings that are meant for everybody (such as Christmas or ‘DOTA’) occurs on a zone level basis.
For those who are not part of this ‘Senior Zone’ we are by no means an exclusive segment of society. We are the direct opposite of that, and will happily welcome anyone and everyone, whether you’re seeking Jesus or just need someone to talk to. Feel free to indicate interest anywhere on this blog. You can be assured someone will contact you.
On Saturdays, we have Cell-Group time from 4pm-6pm and attend the Youth Service from 7pm-9pm. We fill our stomachs from 6-7pm. Cell Group time si where we have personal sharing and bible-study, and the youth service follows the regular pattern of adult church services, with worship time, semrons et al.
We are currently located at 90 Woodlands Drive 16. A note on this; we were previously located at Bukit Panjang, on 10 Jelapang road. Thanks to the Lord’s providence however, our church has set-up another centre at woodlands, where the youth ministry is now based.
As you finish this not-so-brief ‘about’ page, this writer would like to clarify that this blog is created in good-humour and for the main unofficial purpose of updating and informing those in the Senior Zone. Any opinions stated above, and in the rest of the blod are of the writers’ own and need not reflect any genuine consensus among the youth.
Now that the writer is done with the disclaimer, the following is official; he would like to praise and thank God for His immense providence over the years in the youth ministry.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
